Get Happy, Be Happy, Stay Happy

More secrets coming up on Oprah

I learned from Steven Sashen’s blog that the Oprah show is looking for people who have questions about the Laws of Attraction.

Are you familiar with The Secret, (or the “Laws of Attraction”), but are unsure how to use them in your life? Are you struggling with how to implement The Secret in your life? Which part are you struggling with? Do you set-out with a positive thought but come to roadblock when it comes time to manifest this attraction? Are you wondering how you can make the law of attraction work in your life? Have you heard family or friends talk about how The Secret has worked in their own lives, but you still just don’t “get it”?

If they can admit that this is indeed the case, the show should be flooded with people who are supremely manifrustrated.

I’ve said it many times on my blog and I’ll say it again: The so-called Law of Attraction as taught by the The Secret film and book is nonsense — and attempting to live by this law is harmful. I hope that Oprah will come to see the folly of promoting this garbage.

After a lull of a few months, people are googling again for information about The Secret and the Law of Attraction, and they’re finding my blog. I’ll continue to post about this topic because I believe in doing my part to make this world a better place. If you don’t know how living La Vida LOAca (hey, Connie, add that to our lexicon) is destructive, read this and this and this for starters.

I’ll also continue to point to other blog posts that reflect my views, such as this one from Chief Happiness Officer Alexander Kjerulf (an oldie but goodie).

    Halleleujia! (or however it’s spelled)

I couldn’t agree with you more. I like the Livin La Vida LOAca - better copyright it!

The ill conceived publishing of Louise Hay - professional self loathing coach - are another area I consider in the same realm of the LOA / A-H and the like.

    Grrr!!!

  2. Lana Walker-Helmuth February 6, 2008,

    Hallelujah!

    Louise Hay is scary.

A friend of mine visited her publishing company and passed her in a hallway. For some odd reason, she looked at him as if she were seeing a ghost. He got really weird vibes there. (And he’s used to being around a woo-woo like me!)

  3. Citizen Deux February 6, 2008,

    I though a woo woo was a steam engine…

PS - Thanks for the spell check - mine is in the mail (get it? Okay, no more caffeine for me.)

  4. Lana Walker-Helmuth February 6, 2008,

At least caffeine makes you funny :-)

  5. Citizen Deux February 7, 2008,

What’s that constant ringing in my ears?

  6. Cosmc Connie February 9, 2008,

Hi, Lana… I just got back from a short but busy bidness trip and am running a mile a minute, but I wanted to stop in and say hi. I love the addition of “La Vida LOAoca” to our lexicon. And I’m glad you’re still blogging about The Secret. I suspect that a whole new wave of hustledork cinemania is just around the corner; “The Opus” is due for release March 19. Aaarghhhh!

We can only hope, though, that Oprah will come to her senses.

  7. Lana Walker-Helmuth February 15, 2008,

Oops! Sorry, Connie. I didn’t know this comment was waiting for moderation! I’ve been busy too.

I just saw you’re moving to a ranch. Very cool.

you can, should, argue about the secret, it is really ego in action, all the stuff around it

but it is based on something not so easy to argue against; in normal life, what you put your attention to is what grows

so, practice that, forget the rest

we often get just what we look for… you want to see love, you will see it everywhere .;.. you want to see hate or injustice, you will see it everywhere

  9. Lana Walker-Helmuth February 16, 2008,

Hi gregory! Yes, great words of wisdom.

Nice to see you here again :-)

  10. Ellen February 24, 2008,

What is the relationship between The Opus and The Secret? God I hope they aren’t another deluded lot ripping people off to pay for their luxury cars and houses. Haven’t we had enough of that tripe?

  11. Lana Walker-Helmuth February 25, 2008,

Oprah showcased The Secret last year and helped fuel the fire. She’s still at it.

  12. Ellen March 4, 2008,

Are you saying that the Opus is by Oprah?

How in heavens good name can these people consciously think that they are helping people when there are so many scandals surrounding a good majority of them on The Secret, particularly that guy in Australia. He looked evil from the outset so either he must have charmed his way on or the producer must be a lot sillier than we all expect. Now it seems that Proctor is suing him for misleading conduct. Well I never, will be interesting to see what they come up with but there isn’t much good being said about the aussie guy anyway. Haven’t heard much about Bob Proctor.

  13. Citizen Deux March 5, 2008,

What about Oprah’s new fascination with Eckhart Tolle?

  14. Lana Walker-Helmuth March 5, 2008,

    Hi Ellen,
I’m not sure what you’re asking about Oprah. She didn’t write or produce The Secret, she just believes the teachings and promotes them.

I’m not up-to-date on the scandals. I’m waiting for Cosmic Connie to move and get back to blogging :-)

    CD,

Oprah and Tolle — Ole! (More like, oi vey!)

I couldn’t get into “The Power of Now.” I agree that our thinking minds can drive us nuts and that it can be problematic always trying to live in the future or the past, but Tolle takes this concept into realms that I don’t understand. He seems like a bona fide kook to me.

I wrote about the book I prefer here:

It’s kinda fun going back to these older posts!

Well if you thought the LOA was harmful what is even more harmful are some of the people in it. David Schirmer is yet again facing a Federal Court case on charges relating to Intellectual Property rights. He is to, yet again, appear in the Federal court on 2 May 2008.

  16. Sonia May 28, 2008,

Anyone who wants to understand why these people do what they do should read this book:

    http://www.shekinahtherapy.com.au/first.html

It is the book that inspired the secret and is nothing like the secret. It is the most amazing book I have ever read and I can assure you that its worth every cent. Go and buy one and see for yourself.

  17. Lana Walker-Helmuth May 28, 2008,

    Thanks for your comment, Sonia.

Cosmic Connie’s readers will recognize Shekinah Therapy and its tie-in with The Secret.

Definitely “amazing” claims. Too far out there for me :-)

If it seems too good to be true - it is.

It is faith that enables us to leap from fact to fact - sometimes not landing on solid ground - but at least able to hang suspended for a time…

  19. Lana Walker-Helmuth June 3, 2008,

Hey, I like that! Leaping from fact to fact.

Isn’t it amazing how we can create such incredible and radically different pictures with the same brushes and paint?

  20. Citizen Deux June 3, 2008,

indeed - and now about Ron Paul…

  21. Lana Walker-Helmuth June 3, 2008,

    LOL! I think…

  22. Anonymous June 30, 2008,

I have a bloody question for Oprah. Who the hell believes these teachers now that they are being exposed one after the other for their sordid escapades into the greedy world of monetary richness. I see them as nothing but a deluded lot of very selfish individuals.

  23. Citizen Deux July 1, 2008,

What is most interesting about Oprah’s dialogues with these “teachers” and their subsequent failings (including some of her favorite authors) is the revelation that none of us can escape our own humanity. And if that isn’t evidence enough for the non-existence of “super normal”, “para normal” or any other over hyped spirituality, then I don’t know what is.

I believe that only aspiration and a moral obligation to do good exist in humanity. It is a unique trait to homo sapiens. It is learned as a development of survival instinct and exists no where in the animal kingdom.

Although a mother animal may interpose itself to protect it’s young - it will ultimately break off that defense if the situation appears hopeless. Humans have died knowing full well that their rescue efforts for complete strangers are doomed.

No animal will starve itself for any willful reason - disease does not count. Only humans will allow themselves to die for a set of intangible principles.

In my opinion - to state that there exists some “energy field” or guiding spirit is to denigrate human nature.

  24. Lana Walker-Helmuth July 1, 2008,

I think you’re right for the most part, Anon. By their fruits you shall know them — good or bad.

CD, interesting comment about the unique traits of humans. And so many more!

Energy schmenergy. I’m not comfortable with people stating conjecture as fact. Some do so out of ignorance or the extreme need to believe or convince; others for personal gain (such as many of these teachers).
